The United Nations Distributed the World Economic Development
Declaration to Its 191 Member Countries
‘The World Economic Development Declaration Conference’, jointly held by 56 Chinese and foreign organizations such as as China International Institute of Multinational Corporations and China National School of Administration, was successfully held on November 6th and 7th, 2003 in China. This event was approved by the State Council and received high recognition and support from the Party and state leaders. President Hu Jintao, Chairman Wu Bangguo, and Premier Wen Jiabao made important instructions. Ms. Wu Yi acted as the Honorary Chairperson of the Organizing Committee. Mr. Kofi Annan, Secretary General of the United Nations, gave passionate support to the Conference, and he sent Mr. Khalid Malik as special representative to attend the Conference and delivered his greetings.
The World Economic Development Declaration issued by the Conference was drafted by Mr. Zhang Xiaoyu, General Planner of the World Economic Development Declaration Conference, Secretary General of the Organizing Committee and Executive Vice President of CIIMC and revised by 7 Nobel laureates in economic science and 7 famous Chinese economists. Opinions were also consulted from leaders of nearly 10,000 industrial and commercial enterprises and people from all walks of life at home and abroad for the Declaration which is the first global economic development declaration in the world up to now.
After the World Economic Development Declaration Conference, the Declaration，in the form of the document with the number of A/58/614 and under the agenda items of 91, 93, and 100 of the 58th UN General Assembly, was distributed to 191 member countries of the United States on December 2nd, 2003. Secretary General Annan stated that the World Economic Development Declaration is a support to the United Nation’s work and the cause of global development. Theme of the World Economic Development Declaration was ‘equity, credibility, cooperation and development’ and it was the extension of the Millennium Declaration of United Nations New Millennium Leaders Summit in 2000, and it was a programmatic document which aimed at implementing the spirit of the UN Charters, promoting the establishment of the world’s new economic order of mutual existence, equal and mutual benefits and common development as well as promoting the world’s peace and development. It is highly authoritative and extensively representative and has active and realistic meaning and profound historic meaning. And it gave rise to strong repercussion in the international society.
In order to implement and carry out the World Economic Development Declaration and promote the sustainable, steady and healthy development of the Chinese and world economy, a series of activities of the World Economic Development Declaration will be continuously carried out.
