Executive Vice-President & Secretary-General Mr. Zhang Xiaoyu Attended Beijing Olympic Volunteer Celebration at Invitation
On the afternoon of 7th August, 2008, Executive Vice-President & Secretary-General Mr. Zhang Xiaoyu of our organization was invited to attend Beijing Olympic Volunteer Celebration organized by United Nations Volunteers (UNV), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and China Communist Youth League Beijing Committee, etc. At the meeting, some volunteers who have made outstanding contributions to the Beijing Olympic Games, the Paralympics Games as well as development in China were praised. These volunteers have been active in such activities as environment protection, education, poverty reduction and 5.12 Sicuan Earthquake.
UN Under-Secretary-General Mr. Achim Steiner, Mr. Khalid Malik, UN Resident Coordinator in China, Mr. Liu Jian, Director of Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games Volunteer Department and Secretary of China Communist Youth League Beijing Committee and Mrs. Tessa Jowell, Minister for London and the Olympics Affairs, etc. attended the meeting.
Several outstanding volunteers made magnificent speeches and all participants were deeply encouraged and moved by their impressive stories
