CIIMC Delegation Attended the 16^th Session of United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development

From May 2 - May 13, on the invitation of United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development, Mr. Wang Maolin, President of China International Institute for Multinational Corporations (CIIMC), led a delegation to attend the 16^th Session of United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development at United Nations headquarter in New York. The delegation to attend the conference also consisted of Executive Vice-President & Secretary- General of our organization, Mr. Zhang Xiaoyu, Advisor to Secretary-General Mr. Yu Pengcheng, Under-Secretary-General Mr. Song Weidong, Director-General of International Cooperation Department Mrs. Hou Yanfang and representatives from some of our member units.

Every country paid great attention to this conference and more than 100 ministerial-level officials led delegations to attend it. In the two-week conference, representatives from governments of United Nations member states, civic body, business community as well as agricultural and scientific circles discussed key issues such as food crisis, climate change, Africa, and problems of developing countries in order to find solutions to these critical issues. In addition, a written speech by President Wang Maolin entitled “On the Issue of Sustainable Agricultural Development” was distributed to the participants of the conference.

During the conference, UN Under-Secretary-General Mr. Sha Zukang met with members of our delegation. Mr. Soren Peterson of United Nations Global Compact Office also met with our delegation and conveyed greetings from UN Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki-moon to our organization. Mr. Wang Guangya, Ambassador of the Permanent Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations, and Mr. Xie Feng, Minister of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to the United States of America received the delegation separately.

During the visit in New York, our delegation also visited headquarters of American International Group (AIG) and Dun & Bradstreet Group (D&B) and they were warmly welcomed by Mr. Ned Cloonan, Vice President of Corporate and International Affairs for American International Group and Mr. Steve Alesio, Chairman and CEO of D&B Group, respectively. Both companies gladly accepted the invitations to attend the “2^nd International CEO Roundtable of Chinese and Foreign Multinational Corporations” co-sponsored by seven organizations of the United Nations to be held from 15^th to 16^th Nov., 2008 and mutual understandings were reached on further cooperation in the future.
