Executive Vice-President Zhang Xiaoyu Led A Delegation to Attend the Global Compact Leaders’ Summit in Geneva, Switzerland

From July 3^rd to 7^th, 2007, Mr. Zhang Xiaoyu, Executive Vice-President and Secretary-General of our institute, led a delegation consisting of our member companies to attend the Global Compact Leaders' Summit in Geneva, Switzerland.

The summit was chaired by Mr. Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations. More than 1,000 delegates including enterprises’ presidents, government officials, and representatives from non-governmental organizations attended the summit. The delegates had wide and effective exchanges and discussions on topics such as ‘From Principles to Action: Driving Value, Achieving Impact’, ‘Corporate Cooperation and the Functions of Transnational Corporations’, ‘Respond to Megatrends---Shaping the Future’ and Corporate Social Responsibilities, etc. At the interval of the summit, Executive Vice-President Zhang Xiaoyu introduced in details to Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon the situation of our institute, the 1^st World Economic Development Declaration Conference as well as the First International CEO Roundtable of Chinese and Foreign Multinational Corporations to be held in November, 2007. Mr. Zhang also extended thanks to the United Nations for its support and help to our institute over the past many years. The Secretary- General highly appraised the work of our institute, and said that UN would give continuous support to our business. He hoped that our institute could make new contributions to the realization of the UN ‘Millennium Development Goals’ and other relevant work.

A China Networking Meeting was especially arranged during the summit with the attendence of presidents from Chinese and foreign multinational corporations, during which Executive Vice-President Zhang Xiaoyu made a splendid theme speech.

During their stay in Switzerland, Executive Vice-President Zhang Xiaoyu led the delegation to successively visit Mr. Liu Peilong, Advisor to the Director-General of World Health Organization; Mr. Zhao Houlin, Deputy Secretary-General of International Telecommunication Union; Mr. Khalil Hamdani, Director-General of Division on Investment, Technology and Enterprise Development of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development; Mr. Chen Jianping, Minister Counsellor of the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations in Geneva; and Mr. Wang Heliang, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Switzerland. Executive Vice-President Zhang Xiaoyu also attended the reception banquet held by Mr. Li Baodong, Ambassador of the Permanent Mission of the People’s Republic of China in Switzerland upon invitation.

Although it was a short visit, the visit achieved a great success. All the delegation members widened their fields of vision and got to know more friends and cooperation partners.

This visit to Switzerland left a beautiful and memorable impression to everyone in the delegation.
